Viking sculpt WIP I

Here is a new section for this blog...in which I would speak about the way i learn to sculpt miniatures...I would not speak about my feet but the result will probably be the same!

2015...among the good resolutions, I am seriously going to put myself to attempt to sculpt. It is not because I do not have money anymore to buy miniatures...just that the work of the sculptors always impressed me...their management of the volumes, the sharpness of details and the atmosphere creates by some assembled pieces of modelling clay...it is an intimidating new world for me, but with so many possibilities. I tried several times in the past, but without success because I have never completed a single project...I hope that this time it will be different!

I would show in this "WIP's section" my tries and experimentations, the things which work and the one who screw up...by hoping to benefit from your criticisms and your notices about my work...do not hesitate to express your opinion...this is the way to learn.

First of all, i chose an historical subject...a scandinavian warrior. I always like viking history, between historical reality and sagas, tales and legends...and the visual aesthetics of their clothes and weapons decided me to try to sculpt one of those men of the north. More of that, it's a good subject to improve sculpting human anatomy, fabrics and different kind of equipement and weapons.

The scale is 54mm and i used a mix of Fimo classic (90%) and Fimo soft (10%).

These are the first pictures of my Viking man...only the face is over. Anatomy is just sketched because the body will be fully clothed...

That's for now...do not hesitate leave some comments and criticisms...I'll post if possible the progress of my sculpture tests regularly here...I wish you all my best wishes for 2015 !
