The Gob'engers

Hello,

My friend from Skullsmini is going to launch a new Indiegogo campain, with guess what? Super'gobs!

He proposed me to paint some models, and i first thought to paint two of them. Then i saw the concepts and the image of the "Avengers" great diorama from Arsies came to my mind ;) . After making sure the man behind the original piece was okay with this idea (Thanks Javier!), i started this little parody with the gobs.

Well, it has been a lot of fun!

To finish, there are a few wip pics ;) .

The campain will be launched on the 5th of january 2015 and many more gobs will arrive! If you like them, dont miss it ;)

Cheers!

"Blabla" le lutin - Blacksmith Miniatures

Here is my last paintjob for Blacksmith Miniatures...and this miniature has a really special story for me. To start with, I realized quite a while ago, a small drawing for my girlfriend...a funny leprechaun and some mushrooms to illustrate a fantasy walk that she organized with children into the forest. This fast drawing was not planned to serve as concept art for a miniature...but...my girlfriend and Mr. Julien Blacksmith agreed to make me a great birthday present.

Here is the draw i did for my girlfriend...nothing special, just an old chap with a strange hat...

Some pictures of the sculpted figure, done by Stéphane Camosseto. Stéphane did a great job with a concept who wasn't really done for an interesting sculpt...and added his own touch and did a new different head with a mushroom hat...

And finally the paint job done for the box art...the second head will come with a second personal version of this little leprechaun.

A big thanks to Julien, Stéphane and Magali for this nice birthday present...it was really funny to paint it!

Turn the key, just to play... - Abyssal Warlord

Recently i finished my second version of the Abyssal Warlord, a wonderful sculpt from Raul Garcia Latorre for Scale 75.

So for this one i wanted to get rid of the sea related elements, to make him sort of an evil automaton, waiting for an idiot to turn the key!

The modifications, the base and the painting process of the whole piece will be detailed in three future steps by steps. I'll write them as soon as possible, as some other tutorials i have in mind.

Here it is :

For the history, here's the first version i did nearly 2 years ago. As you can see i resculpted him a trident, added a dorsal fin and painted him in full TMP with kind of rusty tones.

I wasnt really satisfied with this version and always thought i would paint another one, that pleases me more. Now it's done :)

Which one do you prefer?

Soundproofing your compressor

Hiho,

Maybe some of you have the same problem, compressors can be... noisy! Specially when, like me, you paint at night when your kids / wife / family are sleeping. Even if i dont use the airbrush very often, it happened to be an issue.

I thought about buying another compressor, but the silent ones are way too expensive. The cheapest solution was to build a soundproof box.

So here's what we need to do it :

- Wooden boards (MDF boards works good)
- Wood glue
- Nails
- A closing system
- Hinges
- Soundproof foam (bought in a specialized store)
- Round pads

Total cost = approx. 40

Let's start with the boards and glue them together:

Nail the boards together to make it stronger:

Add some pads under the box for two reasons. First because you dont want the box to leave marks on your floor. Second and mostly because if you dont do it, the vibrations of the compressor will be in contact with the floor and your soundproofing box will lose a lot of its efficiency.

Time to make the door :

Once the box is complete, drill two holes. One for the plugs, and another one on the top for the hot air evacuation. You dont want your compressor to overheat and burn, obviously. Now it's time to cut the soundproofing foam and glue it on every side inside the box.

The box is done! Sadly i dont have the device to mesure the decibels, but trusting my ears it's approximately twice less noisy. Now i can use it when the family is sleeping, thats awesome!

Of course it's possible to make it more effective, with thicker foam, with double walls or whatever depending your needs. This is a cheap version, but it will be enough in many cases. The only thing i'll see in the future is if the compressor doesnt heat too much inside with only one aeration. Maybe i will have to add another one with a little ventilator. Stay tuned!

Cheers :)

Mushrooms - Blacksmith Miniatures

Today i would like to post a paintjob done for the Blacksmith Miniatures range. It's not realy a figure but some pieces to build sceneries...wild mushrooms to enhance your fantasy scenes. These mushrooms were sculpted by Stephan Camosseto and produced by Blacksmith Miniatures.

It was great fun to paint all these varieties of mushrooms ... and I guess they will soon decorate your forest sceneries.

And some pictures of the sculpt work by Stephane camosseto...and his facebook page where you can find some of his beautifull works

I wish you some good omelettes...

The Boelg - Alambic Miniatures

The Boelg was something i had in mind since quite a long time. I always wanted to put him in a post-apo scene, like if he was a lonely survivor riding his mutant dog. It's also a miniature we didnt see a lot of versions yet. I like that!

The cast was... horrible! Quite a lot of bubbles, gaps between parts and so on. So first i spent a lot of time fixing it, and also to resculpt some parts. For his weapon i wanted a bow, but not an usual one, a compound bow. So i took some old clock parts, plastic card and it was done (strings will be made after painting with hair stolen from my wife). I also added some leather belts, armor plates, a hunting knife, resculpted a bit the bags on the dog and some other little details like the arrows.

The build of the base is quite simple, it's a sheet of cork on big bricks to give some elevation to the scene. The street lamp is made of an old brush, plastic card and putty. Well, to make it short here are some pics! If you have questions, just ask :) .

On the painting side you can read a tutorial about the dog's skin inside the WIP Magazine 02, downloadable at this link . For the rider and as usual i primed it  black and white and then used the airbrush just to give a basic color. After that it's only brush work with the colors you can see on the pic of my palette (before it gets messy) and some more i forgot about :p. As always i paint with highly thinned paint to achieve a smooth finish that is very important when you paint human skin.

A lot of steps & hours later, here's the finished project :

I hope you like it and feel free to ask if you have questions!

Cheers!
